Teaterøen is an open platform for Danish and international performing arts aiming towards challenging the traditional frames for stage art.
At Teaterøen you can experience innovative performance art from all over the world challenging the formats of performance. As our name implies, Teaterøen (Theatre Island) centres around theatrical performances, but welcome all the arts. Besides performances you can also experience concerts, exhibitions, talks, conferences and festivals.

TEATER TAPAS – Theatre Tapas
Every last Sunday of the month we invite you to Teater Tapas, where the audience can experience a taste of new experimenting performances and enjoy delicious appetisers in between. Read more here, if you are an artist and would like to show your work.
PROTREPTIK OG FRAGILITÈ – Protrepticus and Fragilité
Another regular concept at Teaterøen is our protreptical conversations lead by philosopher Ole Fogh Kirkeby. Two guests are invited to our café for a philosophical salon. The conversations will be in Danish. The event is free and will continuously be announced here.

COTYA – Copenhagen Theatre Festival For Young Audiences
COTYA is an annually returning theatre festival at Teaterøen that offers an abundance of Danish and international performance arts for children and teens. Read about and take a look at the programme for COTYA 2018 here.

AKTIONSUNIVERSITETET – The Action University
Teaterøen houses the Action University, an ecology of artbased labs for sustainable lives and leaderships. Read more here.

REHEARSE, PRODUCE OR PERFORM YOUR SHOW
Teaterøen offers professional Danish as international companies to create performing arts in unique surroundings.
There is great diversity in the different spaces at Teaterøen and you can choose the space that complements your event or performance in the best possible way.
Teaterøen primarily addresses self-organising and independent companies that wants to rehearse, produce or perform/set up a performance or show.

ON THE EDGE OF REFSHALEØEN (Refshale Island)
Teaterøen is placed on the outermost edge of Refshaleøen, where the raw industrial concrete meets the wild nature – and consists of various types of buildings each with its own unique history.
Kasernen, the Barracks, which now houses café and theatre auditorium used to be a marine barracks from the late 1800s. Magneten, the Magnet, is a former demagnetization station and Annekset, the Annex, used to be a shipyard, where paintroom, rigging loft and carpentry room has been given a new life.
At Teaterøen we welcome you to a world created with heart and soul – with a huge respect and care for the history of the place and surroundings.
